Job Summary

IMW Industries is currently looking for an Electrical / Controls Design Engineer to join the Engineering team in designing, manufacturing and supporting IMW’s advanced technology products for the alternative energy sector.

This fulltime, permanent position will be best suited for someone with a minimum of four years experience in Electrical and Controls design. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, hands-on type of person with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplined team environment. The candidate should be willing to travel and be flexible to the changing needs within a fast paced manufacturing environment.

The Opportunity

IMW Industries is currently looking for an Electrical / Controls Design Engineer to join the Engineering team in designing, manufacturing and supporting IMW’s advanced technology products for the alternative energy sector.

This fulltime, permanent position will be best suited for someone with a minimum of four years experience in Electrical and Controls design. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, hands-on type of person with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplined team environment. The candidate should be willing to travel and be flexible to the changing needs within a fast paced manufacturing environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Designs the electrical and controls systems for compressors and other technologies including load calculations, cable rating and control system selection.
  • Creates electrical schematics for all products to the applicable codes and standards.
  • Prepares the bill of materials.
  • Develops programming code for PLC’s and HMI’s according to design requirements.
  • Prepares functional specifications for the electrical and controls requirements of new products.
  • Provides technical support for production and test personnel on product electrical systems and testing.
  • Provides electrical system troubleshooting for products in the field.
  • Trains factory and service personnel on the operating function and maintenance of the electrical controls used on all IMW products.
  • Identifies and implements improvements to the electrical/controls design of all IMW products.
  • Investigates and implements product specific certifications as required.
  • Provides input to and implements vendor quality checks and procedures.

Required Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering degree, Technologist diploma, Trade certification with extensive experience in electrical systems or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in electrical and controls design for industrial equipment.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills with superior attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and provide solutions using sound judgment and decision making skills.
  • Proven proficiency with the use of Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to programme a variety of PLC’s/HMI’s such as Siemens, Allen Bradley and Horner.
  • Good working knowledge of ERP software. (Experience using VISUAL Manufacturing is preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to teach others.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge in the application of national electrical standards including hazardous classification areas.
  • Familiarity with remote monitoring systems and SCADA is an asset.
