EcoFuel Tour Spans the Americas
Rainer Zietlow and his team are on the second part of their bid to tackle two of the world's longest roads using only compressed natural gas (CNG) as their vehicle fuel. This leg of the journey, called EcoFuel TransAmerica, will see them travel from Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of South America, to Barrow, Alaska, in their VW Caddy Maxi Ecofuel. Along the way, they will demonstrate the reliability of their natural gas vehicle (NGV) and the effectiveness of the clean, low-carbon fuel it consumes.
IMW is a major sponsor of this tour and has provided fuelling equipment to many of the CNG filling stations along the way. Across South America, CNG is a major vehicle fuel, available at nearly 4500 fuelling stations in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. The EcoFuel TransAmerica tour will follow a route that takes Zietlow from one natural gas filling station to another as they zigzag their way across two continents.
When they reach North America, the EcoFuel tour will travel up the US eastern seaboard and make a short visit to Canada's southern Ontario before heading southwest to California then north again up the west coast to British Columbia and, finally, Alaska.
You can keep track of the natural gas long-distance tour at www.ecofuel-transamerica.com. Zietlow and his team will provide daily reports, photos and short videos recording their experiences. The virtual globe of "Google Earth" will enable viewers to trace the travel route "semi-live".
