Natural Gas Compressors

IMW’s reciprocating compressors have proven to be efficient, durable and reliable with extensive field experience since 1984. Engineered and built by IMW, these compressors offer the following technical features that result in increased performance and profitability for our customers.

Designed for CNG

IMW compressors were designed specifically for the requirements of natural gas. Their proven dependability attests to superior design; operating year after year in rugged conditions. Many natural gas compressors were originally made for air and modified for use with CNG, leading to reduced efficiency and reliability.

Non-lubricated Cylinders

IMW's non-lubricated compressor cylinders deliver the cleanest CNG available with oil carry-over of only 5 parts-per-million (PPM) or less, compared to averages of 100 PPM or more in many lubricated compressors. Our clean technology prevents costly and troublesome oil accumulation in heat exchangers, storage vessels, and vehicle systems. This ensures lower operating costs, happier customers, and increased station profitability.

Lubricated compressors require complex filtration systems that remove only a fraction of the harmful oil carryover and tend to increase maintenance costs for CNG powered vehicles. IMW compressors offer a better alternative by using state-of-the-art Teflon® composite rings and seals that require no lubrication yet offer long service life.

Configured for Efficiency

IMW will assemble your compressor system using proven, standardized components configured to achieve maximum efficiency and long life in your specific operating conditions, whether Arctic or tropical; humid or dry. Designed to operate at reduced speeds, IMW compressors achieve high flow capacities and increase the life of piston components while substantially reducing vibration and noise. Reliability testing and real-life experience have demonstrated the operating life of IMW piston rings, rod seals, and valves to typically exceed 6,000 ~ 8,000 hours of use.

Air-cooled or Liquid-cooled

 

IMW offers flexibility in compressor cooling to best meet the needs and expectations of our customers. Our compressors operate efficiently in a variety of climates and temperatures ranging from -40oC (-40oF) to 60oC (140oF), with discharge gas only 10oC (18oF) above ambient (outdoors) temperatures. IMW compressors come with air-cooled or liquid-cooled cylinders and a variety of high-efficiency gas and liquid cooling systems. These effective and efficient cooling options increase the potential CNG flow capacity and reduce vehicle filling times.
